Memorium

In memory of all those who paid for our freedoms. And those who continue to do so.

>

First, allow me to reflect on the meaning of Memorial Day. This is a time for all of us to remember the selfless acts of sacrifice made by those who have secured our freedoms. Those who we honor with this day have gone before us to bring, defend, and spread freedom throughout the world. Those who we honor have delivered the large majority of the world's population from oppression and tyranny in one manner or another. Their sacrifices and that of their families must be remembered, honored, and cherished by those who remain to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Thomas Jefferson stated that the tree of liberty must from time to time be nourished with the blood of patriots and tyrants. That blood is the price of the freedoms we enjoy, and often take for granted. Please remember those who have fallen or lost a loved one in freedom's name, in our names. If you know someone who has lost a loved one, please offer them a thank you and say a prayer for them. Remember, it's not called "national barbecue day" or "start of summer time day"; it's called "Memorial Day."

Enough sermonizing. I’d like to give a big hi to all my friends and family; online and offline. This post is about anything and a bit of everything I could think of, mostly the usual stuff that happened during the week.

To start the ball rolling, on the 23rd we celebrated our “Asian Pacific Heritage Month.” Jasmine and I went to see the show and enjoy the wonderful foods prepared by volunteers. They have a Polynesian dance review, which was nice. There must have been many students in the group, they all seemed so young. We arrived there just in time for the program to start. I also had the chance to see all my friends who had volunteered to do some cooking and serving, they were so happy that I made it this year. It was my first time attending this event. From the moment we got inside, Jasmine was so excited seeing Joy-Joy, Celine, Benjamin, and all the other kids. She was just so happy playing and running around with them. I spent most of my time there chasing Jasmine, especially in the food area. It’s somewhat hard with Jasmine running around to listen to what the speaker said. Oh well, she had fun. I think to her that was the best day of her life to that point, what with playing so much with all these kids. Jasmine was so amazed with the dancers, the costumes, and the music, that she danced along to the beat. The onlookers couldn’t help but watch her, like she was the entertainer. She did good dancing and keeping everyone entertained. She was so entertained by the performers that she forgot all about playing and just stayed with me watching them, too. Unfortunately, I couldn’t use the camera as well as I would have liked with Jasmine beside and on me. Oh well, at least she didn’t make me chase with her this time. About half way through the show, they played one of the songs from “Lilo and Stitch.” She was so happy to hear the music, that after it stopped she asked me "Mommy, where’s Lilo and Stitch?” The lady next to me told Jasmine that they just went to take a nap. Thanks be for her presence of mind. It’s so cute, though, when she asks questions like that. After the show, they served dinner for everyone. It was so yummy, lots of Asian food; they had all kinds of Pilipino, Hawaiian, and Chinese food. I think too many in front of me made me full already, plus the desserts. Finally, we went home around 4pm. Jasmine was to tired that she fell asleep quick. Here are a couple pics.

The following day we just stayed home and had some relaxing moments. I decided to let her have some fun outside while the weather is nice and sunny. I let her play outside with the very small pink tub. This was loaned to us courtesy of our landlady. She was so happy about it, and we spent about almost two hours outside with her playing with the water. Then we went inside and she took a real bath, dressed her up, and had a snack. After the snack, she passed out like she hadn’t slept in a month. She finally had a very good afternoon nap that day. Here are a couple pics of Jasmine in the tub.

Friday, while Jasmine was playing in the pink tub, I saw hubby. He was going to the restaurant across the street from our house. He had a nice steak lunch with his co-workers. I didn’t get to go because the lunch was paid for by on of the group as a going away treat, and was limited to the shop. I’m glad, really. His co-worker, let’s call him X, is leaving in a little while for Iraq. May god watch over and shelter him and his family. Anyway, the husband came home from work as usual. Except, this wasn't a usual day. He brought me a gift. He got a Canon 2 Mega pixel camera from X, who was giving it away because he got a new one. He gave it to me to use for my blog. Here's a pic of it. I love it; it's small and handy. It's not a big bulky truckload like his. Hubby said that way he wouldn’t feel guilty about having a steak lunch without me. Part of me would rather have the steak, but ultimately the camera will last longer and be more useful.

The hubby just entered a photo contest. It's the Crestock Photography Contest 2007. The prize is his dream camera. I hope he wins. That way maybe I can get his old camera, and then I'll be married to an "Award Winning Photographer." Seriously, click here to view his photo and leave a comment.

Again, please pray for our troops in harms way and for their families and loved ones. Also pray for those who have gone before them. Please honor those who have given so much that we can enjoy our lives in freedom, blessed by God with the fullness of all life can be.
